I’ve had a fair amount of posts on this blog talking about the band Attack Attack! (their style of music, their lyrics, and their videos, etc.) and how much I dislike them. While I was in San Jose for New Year’s and a few days, a friend of mine and fellow hardcore lover asked me about them. It blew me away at first, because he is a hardcore hardcore fan, and a band like Attack Attack! would seem, to me, not to fit in with the bands he listens to. We kinda got in-depth in our discussion, which is kinda cool seeing as how we were talking about Attack Attack!.
He turned on Pandora and found a song of theirs he thought I would like, and, strangely enough, I did. It was called “AC-130”. It’s much different from (at that point) much of their catalog as it is a straight hardcore/metalcore song, and it basically sounds like 4 different breakdowns. Later, I confessed to having listened to their song “Smokahontas” because I liked the electronica part.
So I downloaded their most recent album and found which songs I most accepted and deleted the rest. My Attack Attack! acceptance level went from 1 to 7 songs.
I found out they have a new album coming out, and, out of curiosity, checked out the samples on Amazon. Was very surprised to hear stuff I didn’t dislike at all. All the songs seem to have a more subtle use of electronic influences, and the clean vocalist is different from what I’ve heard too. And, the metalcore was good too! The samples were only 30 seconds each, but each song sounded good enough as to where I’d at least give the full album a listen.
Could I see them now as I see The Devil Wears Prada? It seems that Attack Attack! aren’t that sucky of a band anymore. If they don’t fiddle around like crabs on a stage, I might stop using the word “sucky,” too.
